Vinyl banners: sizes, hems and grommets
Vinyl banners are durable, weather-resistant and cost-effective for outdoor signs, fences and storefronts. A few finishing choices make them hang properly.
Hems
Hemming folds and seals the edge to reinforce it. It stops fraying and strengthens the area where you hang the banner.
Grommets
Metal grommets give you a place to tie or hook the banner. Typical spacing is about every 2 feet along the edges, with corner grommets for hanging. For long banners, add intermediate grommets so it does not sag.
Wind
For outdoor use in windy areas, wind slits or a mesh banner lets air pass through and lowers strain on the fixings. Tie off each grommet rather than only the corners.
Artwork tips
- Keep important text and logos at least a few inches from the edge so hems and grommets do not cover them.
- Use large, bold text — banners are read from a distance.
- Send vector art or a high-resolution file sized for the final banner.
You can set grommet and hem options when you choose the banner size in our online ordering.
